Today, I'm pulling back the curtain on how you can go from $50k a year to making $50k a quarter. Some might read that figure and feel skeptical that this is possible as a creative.

But if you're reading this, you're likely the kind of person who sees that number and thinks, "Challenge accepted."

Two Routes to Success

There are two main ways to achieve a multi-six-figure income from photography:

  1. 10,000 Hours To Master Your Craft: This involves dedicating years to perfecting your skills and building your network. Eventually, you may land contracts with top brands, but this method is slow and takes a decade.
  2. Learn the Business Side: This is the route I took. Within 1.5 years of going full-time, my quarterly revenue was $50k. But I kind of cheated. I invested in myself by taking an online program that taught me everything. I knew that if I spent a few thousand dollars on myself, I'd move faster than my peers who were struggling and making the mistakes themselves.

 

The Power of Leverage

If there's one concept I'd want you to grasp today, it's leverage.

Imagine turning every dollar you put into something into a 10x return. Sound like magic? It's not. It's a pure, smart business strategy.

As photographers, we wear a lot of hats: shooting, editing, client communication, and sales, just to name a few.

But only some of these tasks bring in the big money. To earn more, you simply need more clients. Client acquisition is what brings in the money.

Where does one find the time to get more clients and do everything else we need to do? The answer: delegation.

 

Making Leverage Work for You

Say you earn $100/hr. If you can delegate a task to someone willing to do it for $10/hr, you can keep the $90 difference. Sounds too good to be true, but here's how this applies to us:

Photographers do a lot. We shoot, edit, communicate, and hustle to get clients. What if we can outsource some of these tasks?

By focusing more on sales, we can increase our client base. How? By freeing up time from tasks that can be delegated.

Consider editing, for instance. By hiring a great editor, not only do you get to focus on acquiring more clients and taking more photos.

For me, hiring an editor was transformative. My final deliverables improved, clients were happier, and I enjoyed being behind the camera more.

A reliable team can amplify your productivity and business efficiency.

But it doesn't stop there. It's not just about hiring an editor. Think about all the roles you can delegate. Imagine having a virtual assistant to handle the mundane tasks or a team to streamline your operations. The possibilities are endless.

 

The Second Unlock: Automation

Imagine hiring someone that never makes a mistake, never sleeps, and is 100% focused on making your business succeed.
