Beat the Algorithm: How To Strengthen Your Creative Business Now | 83

Jun 27, 2023

We live in a world of ever-changing social platforms.

TikTok just got banned in Montana, wiping out monetization channels for so many creators.

With uncertainty just around the corner, often it’s hard figuring out where we should actually share content.

I'm here to share strategies that will safeguard you and your income and increase your impact as a creative, regardless of the volatility of TikTok, Instagram, or other platforms.

Let's talk diversification: why should you post your content across multiple platforms?

  1. Stability: We all know that platforms can change - they can tweak their algorithms, drop monetization, or vanish completely (RIP Vine). It's about not letting one platform hold all your eggs.
  2. Expansion: Sharing your content across a variety of platforms introduces you to broader and more diverse audiences. You increase your chances of being discovered by the audience you're trying to reach.

Think of TikTok's ban and Instagram dropping their reels bonus program. Changes like these can be jarring, but here's the key takeaway: we, as creatives, shouldn't lean heavily on these platforms.

We must build our success. How? By taking action and diversifying.

Beyond the added security, diversifying your content allows you to reach new, larger audiences.

Why gamble on one platform's algorithm when you can spread your bets across the board? It's about enhancing your reach, and in turn, your impact.

But before we delve into strategic action, let's focus on the WHY behind our content. What drives us to create?

  1. Passion: Creatives love to share their art with the world. It's their hobby. It's their passion.
  2. Purpose: Many creatives aim to help others, whether through educational content teaching creative biz or comedic skits helping their audience feel happy.
  3. Profit: Creatives often have a business objective behind their posts, like selling presets, merchandise, or online courses.

Identifying your WHY shapes your content strategy.

My motives echo points 2 and 3. I am on a mission to equip creatives to live their dream lives. I want to offer you the tools to turn your passion into a thriving business.

By spreading content across every platform, I not only reach a wider audience but also create awareness about my paid program, Creative Biz Launch. While some might prefer this comprehensive growth blueprint, others might wish to learn from my free content and have the time to make the mistakes themselves.

Once you have your WHY figured out, you can create a strategic plan. Choose your platforms carefully. YouTube? Instagram? Email newsletter? Let's understand the options:

  1. Short-form content: Platforms like Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook are perfect for bite-sized content. Create once, and share everywhere. Plus, YouTube Shorts and TikTok still provide monetization.
  2. Long-form content: This includes YouTube videos and podcasts. Diving into long-form content can help you reach audiences that prefer a more in-depth approach. Also, you can expand your viral short-form content into a more detailed long-form piece.
  3. Own channels: These are platforms you have total control over, like a website, an email newsletter, or a paid community. Having your own channels gives you an audience base unaffected by the whims of other platforms.

Starting with multiple platforms might seem overwhelming, but remember, you don't need to be everywhere at once.

Start slow, get a hang of one platform, and then expand. Gradually, you'll find yourself reaching more people, impacting more lives, and gaining more success.

Remember, the ultimate goal is to increase your reach and impact. Spreading your creative content across multiple platforms is the key to achieving that. And I'm here to help you unlock that door.
