Simplify to Succeed: Don't Overcomplicate Photography

That's right, I said it.

Most photography doesn't need crazy 3-light setups, painstakingly styled scenes, or hours of touch-ups on Photoshop.

When you search 'product photography' on YouTube, you'll be led to believe you need complex light setups, extensive Photoshop skills, and intricate styling setups.

But the truth is, these are not prerequisites for success in this industry.

Yes, they might give visually impressive results. But they don't necessarily translate into more business.

The key is to create a system that allows for ease and speed without compromising the quality of your work. Here are three essential points that have defined my approach to product photography:

  1. Quality over Complexity: My photos might not be 100% perfect. But they are still fantastic, and my clients can't tell the difference between a flawless photo and a great photo. I deliver high-quality, pro images that serve my clients' needs and meet their expectations.
  2. Efficiency over Perfection: I can deliver my work twice as fast as the next photographer. This doesn't just mean more clients and more work. It also translates into a better customer experience.
  3. Focus on the Business: At the end of the day, product photography is about helping clients increase sales and build brand. The actual problem that we solve for clients isn't about producing 'perfect' images. It's about delivering images that drive sales and enhance brand recognition.

I've found that small to medium e-commerce brands appreciate this approach.

They need high-quality photography, not perfection.

They want content that they can use to build their brand on social media and their websites.

I've been able to get repeat business from client after client because of the experience of working with me. Both quality photos, and fast turnarounds.

What Are We Being Hired For?

Remember, the aim of product photography is to help your clients increase sales and build brand awareness.

Whether you spend hours setting up perfect lighting or ten minutes with a single light setup, the result is likely to be the same in the eyes of your client.

If you enjoy complex setups and they fulfill your creative needs, go ahead and enjoy the process.

But if your goal is to build a thriving business, simplification and efficiency should be your guiding principles.
