New Era Of Cold Email | 117

If you’ve been following me for some time, you know how much I love cold email. It’s how I’ve landed 95% of my clients inside my product photography business, Pieta Productions.

But when I talk to photographers/videographers who try cold email, I always get the same feedback. “No one replies to my emails.”

The thing about cold email is that most creatives don’t follow any system. Without a system, no one will reply to your emails. Your email accounts need to be set up technically correct (DKIM, SPF, etc.) and they need to have the right copy to get responses.

The result of not following a system? Most of your emails end up in spam. And those that do end up in the inbox don’t get a response because the copy just doesn’t justify the reader hitting reply.

This is the reality unless you follow a proven system or spend the years developing your own, cold email won’t be effective. But if done right, the results can be incredible.

But I have to warn you. It’s about to get way harder.

New Rules of Engagement

In February 2024, google is implementing their new email standards. They’re making it even harder to land in the inbox of potential clients… unless you know what you’re doing.

Luckily, if you’re a Creative Biz Launch student, there’s nothing to worry about. The system I’ve been teaching since 2022 is already compliant with the new guidelines. Keep sending emails like you have been using the system and you’ll keep landing clients.

If you’re not using my Creative Biz Launch system, here are some basics you need to know.

Authentication. The account you are sending your emails from needs to be properly authenticated. Without DKIM, SPF, and a few other things set up, it will be hard to land in the inbox.

What else is new? Unsubscribe footers. You need to make it super simple for recipients to unsubscribe from your emails.

If your volume justifies it, a simple unsubscribe footer won’t work. You’ll need to add a one-click unsubscribe, making it easy for recipients to opt-out.

Lastly, you need to focus on your spam rate. The more often that recipients mark you as spam, the lower your chances of landing in the inbox. This has already been true, but it’s getting even more strict now.

There are ways that I recommend you write your copy so that you provide value in the email and show that you’re there trying to help leads, not just showing up as a spam offer. Test dozens of different email variations to make sure you’re doing it right. If you don’t have the months to test stuff out, I give you the best templates inside of Creative Biz Launch.
